The Opportunity
Brightforge Talent is seeking a skilled Web Developer for a 6-month fixed-term contract opportunity with our client, a significant member-based organisation located in Melbourne.
Joining a dynamic team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining websites, primarily utilising the WordPress platform but also potentially involving other web technologies. You will work closely with designers, content creators, and project managers to deliver high-quality, responsive, and user-friendly web solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in web development, a passion for clean code, and excellent attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Website Development & Customisation:
Develop and maintain websites, primarily using WordPress, ensuring they are user-friendly, responsive, and optimised for performance.
Customise WordPress themes and plugins to meet specific project requirements.
Integrate third-party tools and APIs as needed.
Create and implement custom functionality using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
Provide ongoing technical support and maintenance for existing websites.
Troubleshoot and resolve website issues, including performance problems, bugs, and errors.
Assist in monitoring site security, backups, and uptime.
Optimisation & Best Practices:
Optimise websites for speed, performance, and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
Implement web development best practices, including accessibility and security standards.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with the web team, designers, and communication advisors to ensure websites align with branding and content strategies.
Liaise with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions that meet organisational objectives.
Promote and champion UX/UI principles to improve user experiences.
Testing & Quality Assurance:
Conduct thorough testing of websites to ensure compatibility across different browsers, devices, and screen sizes.
Perform debugging and quality assurance checks.
Content Management Support:
Assist internal teams with managing website content using the WordPress CMS.
Key Selection Criteria
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Experience:
Proven experience developing and customising websites, with strong experience in WordPress theme and plugin development.
A portfolio showcasing previous web development projects, demonstrating technical skills and creativity.
Experience working effectively both individually and collaboratively within a team environment.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in core web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
Strong experience with WordPress development.
Experience with database management (e.g., MySQL).
Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
Experience with website optimisation techniques (performance and SEO).
Knowledge of website security best practices.
Soft Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational and time-management abilities.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks or projects concurrently.
